This short book is an example of great fiction writing. Irène Némirovsky’s other recently discovered masterpiece, Suite Française, first revealed her talent to 21st century readers in 2004. Like that acclaimed novel, Fire in the Blood is set in the same part of rural France. It was first published in 2007, roughly sixty years after its completion in 1942, just months before the author died in Auschwitz.
