New ebook store is now open for business and downloads starting on July 7th. It is a big player and the name is Borders. According to their tweet news line they have “over a million” ebooks available.
Later research shows that Borders are partnered with Kobo/Indigo digital reader and eBook downloads are available only in the US. Most probably ‘geo’-restricting by IP address.
dbReaders Team reports some books are cheaper on the Borders store than on iBooks, Amazon or B&N. Though it is unclear why Kobo has some books that Borders does not.
Some readers from internet community write they are avoiding Borders e-purchases till they work out major bugs: “It’s as if we’re beta testing for them right now… There are plenty of other sites to buy from”, writes M. Leung in a popular forum discussion. So it is good we have dozens of other e-book sources to choose from.
